1. Horticultural Crops and Quality

Horticultural crop quality for human benefits is a major concern in agriculture industry. This lecture will focus on quality and factors that affect it. Main topics are relation between bioactive compounds and their use for human health benefits, quality evaluation, technique to improve quality pre- or after harvest, consumer/grower wants and needs, food safety, and various functional mechanism of bioactive compounds. After completion of this lecture, students are expected to have fundamental knowledge on horticultural crop quality and can apply acquired knowledge to issue on improving quality assurance and safety of agricultural crops.

2. Postharevst Biology

Postharvest biology focuses on the environmental factors modulating and functional processes controlling physical and chemical changes in live plants and plant products after harvest. The book provides a concise overview of the theoretical principles and processes governing these changes. Included are fruits, agronomic crops, fruits, vegetables, flowers, nuts, woody ornamentals, seeds and other forms of plant propagules and turf grasses, with examples ranging from intact plants to pollen. Emphasis is placed on the basic principles operative.

 Graduate Course

1. Plant Growth Regulator

Study major and minor plant hormones and introduce their characteristics and applications in agriculture. We also study and review recent research topics in plant hormones by reviewing research papers and news.

2. Advanced Postharevst Biology

Study postharvest physiology and technology and introduce news of horticultural crops. Present articles on the postharvest treatment of fresh products as affecting the eventual quality of processed product. We also study papers based on fundamental and interdisciplinary research including genomics and molecular biology, entomology, plant physiology, plant pathology, chemistry, engineering, modelling, advanced technology and economics
