Underground utility tunnels manage essential public infrastructure of urban such as electricity, water supply and telecommunication, so disasters such as fire and explosion to the underground utility tunnel can severely damage
not only urban facilities but also urban life. Because of characteristics of underground structure, heat and smoke are
not quickly discharged when fire disaster occurs. It makes it difficult to evacuate refugees and enter firefighters.
Therefore, it is necessary to prepare initial reaction after fire disaster to minimize the damage.
So, in this study appropriate capacity of the exhaust fan for effective smoke emission was selected. To select proper
capacity of exhaust fan, target underground utility tunnel was divided into each section and assumed that fire occurred
in each section. After smoke diffusion was simulated, and analyze whether smoke was adequately discharged
by exhaust fan. This results can be used as a manual for effective initial fire suppression in the underground utility tunnel.
