Abstract
There has been a growing emphasis in the academic and policy manifolds on sustainable development. The UN and World Bank pose the sustainable development as the post-Millennium Development Goals, and proceed interdisciplinary projects in the linkage on research, policy and social standpoints. The UNU-IHDP and UNEP take the capital theoretic concept in economics into account natural resources, and employ the inclusive wealth as the measure of sustainability. In the seminar, the emerging framework of green (wealth) accounting on natural capital, inclusive wealth and sustainability will be introduced. According to economics theory, the recent development on natural capital and its economic measure, known as valuing natural capital, will be discussed. The empirical analyses on agriculture and fishery will be presented as an example of single headline index of ecosystem based management including the conceptual extension of natural capital to portfolio assets. This can contribute to policy implications on sustainability in agriculture and other ecosystems.
