Based upon the acknowledgement of animal nutrition in undergraduate course, advanced digestion, absorption and various metabolisms of nutrients in domestic animal will be introduced. Consequently this class attempts to give a comprehensive picture of biochemical nutrition with the help of graduate students.  From the middle of class, students should present with their own topic individually for profound study of specific field.

This class studies the characteristics of individual vitamin and understands reciprocal mechanisms among nutrients in animals subsequently graduates will be able to enlarge their acknowledgement about vitamins.  Although vitamin requirements for animals were established approximately 50 years ago, feed industry are still use out-of-date data for current lean genotype animals.  Consequently, the necessity of new requirements of vitamin for domestic animals, application of vitamin levels in practical feed formulation and experiments-to-be in the future will be discussed in this class.  Additionally, this class will deal with minerals in animal nutrition particularly about essential minerals.  Recently, organic minerals are begun to use in animal feed manufacture, but we have to know exact information of organic minerals by source, levels as well as merit and demerit compared to inorganic mineral which are generally widely used in feed industry.

Although animals had been reared by human beings from long times ago, the feed manufacturing technologies were started to use less than 3 decades.  Based upon the concept of commercial feed, numerous non-plant sources as well as plant cereals are widely used in animal feed.  Current feed production in Korea is reached approximately 15 millions metric tons in 2004, and swine feed showed the highest production (35%) and poultry (26%), beef (20%) and dairy feed (12%) were followed.   As consumers’ interests of animal products are changed continually, we need to develop the technology of animal feed and try to find new ingredient of animal feed to meet consumers demand. Consequently graduates will deal with synthetic amino acids, vitamins, minerals and enzymes in animal feed which are hot issues in feed industry.  Moreover acidifier will be introduced as an alternative material of antibiotics for our food safety.  The present class will talk about synthetic amino acids primarily then numerous feed supplements will be followed if time is available.
